COLUMBUS JUNCTION — Columbus High School rallied Thursday in a volleyball match but lost to the visiting Arrows, 3-1.
The Southeast Iowa Super Conference North Division contest saw the Wildcats drop the first two sets, the rally to take the third and nearly the fourth before they were defeated by Wapello 25-17, 25-18, 20-25, 27-25.
Olivia Carrier led the Wildcats offense with 12 kills and Michelle Diaz produced nine kills. Jobie Lekwa set up her teammates with 19 assists and Sera vela had five.
Emma Milder led the Columbus defense against the incoming Arrows with 38 digs while Carrier and Victoria Howell combined for 44 digs. Isabelle Lagunas had 12. Vela had three blocks.
Columbus planted 14 aces in Wapello territory, five from Carrier, four from Diaz, two each from Milder and Lekwa and one from Howell.
Wapello has a 5-7 record overall and 1-1 in the North while Columbus is 6-7, 0-2. Columbus plays at Winfield-Mount Union tonight.
