WAYLAND — The WACO boys used a red-hot start to race past West Burlington in SEISC South Division play on Friday night, winning 58-51. The Warrior girls fell 73-42.
The WACO boys torched West Burlington in the first quarter, winning the opening period 20-4. The Falcons slowly but surely scrapped back and cut the lead down to just four points with just one minute remaining. The Warriors clung on in the final 60 seconds to pick up a victory.
Drew Kissell led the way with 16 points, 11 of which came in the second half. Pietro Vannini scored 14. Nik Coble had 12. Gabe Reichenbach scored eight, and both Elijah McGohan and Braden Hammond scored four.
The WACO girls had a rough start to the game, trailing 21-6 in the first quarter and 38-17 at halftime against a West Burlington suad that just recently dropped out of the Class 3A rankings.
Ellah Kissell scored nine points in the loss. Lindsey Roth scored seven. Grace Conwell and Morgan Graber had six apiece. Laney Graber scored three, and the trio of Grace Coble, Maysan Lee and Natalie West put up two each.
