CEDAR RAPIDS — The 2020 Iowa High School state volleyball brackets are all set, and No. 11 New London will get the No. 6 seed in the Class 1A tournament.
After knocking off No. 5 Southeast Warren in three-straight sets Wednesday night. the Tiger volleyball team joined seven other Class 1A teams to punch their ticket to Cedar Rapids. New London will take on third-seeded Gehlen Catholic, who was ranked No. 3 in the final rankings, which were released earlier this month.
The field of eight contains seven ranked teams. Unranked Council Bluffs St. Albert upset No. 6 Newell Fonda in the Region 2 final, which earned the Saintes the No. 8 seed. They will take on top-seeded Janesville in one of the first semifinals, on Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. While that game is on Court 1, second-seeded Wapsie Valley will face seventh-seeded Notre Dame.
New London and Gehlen Catholic will face each other on Court 2 at 8 p.m., with the winner facing the Wapsie Valley-Notre Dame winner on Wednesday. While the Tigers and Jays play on Court 2, fourth-seeded Gladbrook-Reinbeck will play fifth-seeded Springville on Court 1.
The tournament will take place over three days. The two winners of Wednesday night’s semifinals, the Class 1A championship will take place on Thursday night. Any game New London plays will have an 8 p.m. start.
