PELLA — The Mt. Pleasant girls’ basketball team traveled to Pella for their season opener on Tuesday night. The Panthers dropped the opener 57-35.

Mt. Pleasant had a rocky start to the game. Pella won the first quarter 17-6 and took a 38-20 lead into halftime. Lydia Stewart ahd a good first half for the Panther, scoring nine points to carry the offense.

The Dutch were able to stretch the lead to 20 points in the third quarter, but Mt. Pleasant came back to cut the lead to 16 before the third quarter was over. Pella lead Mt. Pleasant 44-28 going into the final period.

The Panthers had a cold start to the fourth period, getting shut out in the first four minutes. Pella was able to stretch their lead in the final minutes to win the game by 22.

Stewart finished the night with 15 points and six rebounds. Karsyn Lamm was Mt. Pleasant’s second-leading scorer with seven.

Sydni Coleman finished the night with five points. Elli Liechty had three points. Isabel Ashton and Avery Sutter scored two points apiece, and Kenna Lamm ended the night with one.

Tristian Shull didn’t score for the Panthers, but she did lead the team in assists, with four, and in steals, with two.

Mt. Pleasant is now 0-1 overall. They’ll travel to Ottumwa on Monday, Dec. 2.
