MILWAUKEE, Wis. — The Iowa Wesleyan volleyball team bounced back nicely from their home loss last week, going 3-1 over the weekend. The Tigers had a 1-1 day Friday and ended the weekend with a 2-0 performance on Saturday.
IW’s first game of the weekend was a 3-0 loss to Beloit College. The Tigers fell 26-24, 25-20, 25-17 despite a ridiculous 20-kill game from Lida Landre.
Landre kept dominating in game two, leading the Tigers to a thrilling five-set win against North Central, Minnesota with 19 more kills. The Tigers rallied back from an 0-2 deficit to win 21-25, 23-25, 25-21, 25-18, 15-8. Jenna Murphy had 22 digs to lead the defense.
On Saturday, IW took it to the host team. The Tigers won in four sets against Mt. Mary, taking it 25-12, 25-11, 22-25, 25-10.
Ariel Smale led the squad with 13 kills in the win over Mt. Mercy. Murphy had 17 digs.
The Tigers finished off the weekend in style, with a 3-0 win over Silver Lake. IW dominated every set, winning 25-15, 25-17, 25-9.
Smale filled the stat sheet against SIlver Lake. She had 11 kills in the win, and also co-led the squad with 16 assists. Paige Kammerer had 16 assists as well, and Murphy finished with 15 digs.
The Tigers are now 3-2 overall, and they’ve got a huge game coming up on Thursday. It’s their SLIAC opener against Webster University, which begins at 7 p.m.
