Trojan pitchers combined allow 1 hit in 2 games

FAIRFIELD — The Fairfield High School softball team improved its record to 22-1 with a sweep of the visitors from Centerville (10-10) Mondday.

Fairfield pitchers Allison Rebling and Coty Engle tossed a combined 10 innings and allowed just one hit.

The Trojans won the first game 9-1 behind Rebling, who allowed a single hit with four walks and 10 strikeouts and helped her cause with a 2-for-3 performance at the plate with a double. Shay Drish also had two hits.

The second game was a 12-0 victory where the Trojans scored early and ended it early. Fairfield scored six runs in the first inning then added three in the second and topped it off with three in the third for a mercy-rule triumph.

Engle gave up a walk and fanned two in her three innings of work.

Rebling again led the way in the batter’s box with two hits in two at bats. Danielle Breen also went 2-for-2 and hit a double. Engle helped her cause with a double. Brynley Allison also connected on a double.

Fairfield hosts Iowa City Liberty (14-8) in a doubleheader tonight.
