Demons up two, Tigers down one

Washington rises to No. 8 in Class 3A, New London falls to No. 5 in 8-Player

The newest rankings for the Cedar Rapids Gazette/KGYM Radio/Southeast Iowa Union football poll were released earlier this week and the area has seen some movement within it’s two ranked squads. Washington is up to No. 8 in Class 3A, and New London is down to No. 5 in 8-Player.

Washington moved up two spots after a 38-31 win over Iowa City Liberty on the road. Liberty came into the game at No. 9, making them an easy leapfrog for the Demons after the win. Washington received 22 points, two behind No. 7 Sergeant Bluff-Luton.

New London narrowly escaped Wayland with a win triple overtime win over WACO, beating the Warriors 56-50. The Tigers were jumped by Audubon for the fourth spot in 8-Player, but are still the highest rated Union area team.

The area now has three other teams receiving votes. Sigourney-Keota picked up three votes in the Class 1A poll and both Highland and Cardinal received two votes in the Class A poll. All five area teams getting votes are undefeated.
