MT. PLEASANT — Tanning salon owners in Henry County will now have to pay a fee to have tanning bed inspections completed.
At the Henry County Board of Supervisors meeting on Tuesday, Oct. 8, the board approved an inspection fee of $40 per tanning device with a maximum fee of $400 per facility. If the fee is not paid within 45 days of billing, a $25 per month late fee will apply.
At a Henry County Board of Health meeting in August, the board decided to move forward with an ordinance that would allow the county to perform the inspections. Previously, inspections were performed by employees of the State of Iowa. Because the state no longer has the resources to do it, the responsibility falls on the county.
