While the COVID-19 pandemic put a strain on many businesses, Copper Creek Ridge event center in Riverside has fared well.

“Business has been really good,” co-owner Kelly Wood said. “Considering that it’s an event center, we had a really good year.”

Wood said that the venue, which opened in August 2019, hosted about 20 events last year.

She said that Copper Creek benefitted from being located in Washington County.

“We are in Washington County, so there were times when we didn’t have the same mandates as other counties like Johnson County,” she said. “We were able to facilitate weddings, where in other counties, you couldn’t do the same thing.

“We were able to host some good-sized events.”

The 3,800-square-foot facility can comfortably seat 300 for an event.

“We don’t allow anyone to go over that,” Wood said. “Our half capacity for COVID was 220 people.

“We could probably do 440, but we don’t. It wouldn’t be a pleasant experience.”

Part of Copper Creek Ridge’s success is due to the fact that the venue fills a void in the area.

Wood said that there are few places in Washington County that can host a wedding.

“You have a KC Hall or maybe a park,” she said. “There’s nothing here to the caliber we’re at.”

For people planning a wedding, choosing a venue should be at or near the top of the priority list, because dates book quickly and well in advance.

For Copper Creek Ridge, 2021 many dates are already booked.

“We’re not a full capacity yet, but we have quite a few weddings booked,” Wood said. “This week, we have a corporate event every day. In March, we are hosting the White Tails banquet.”

Tours of the facility are encouraged, and planners will help put together a customized event.

The venue includes a bride’s room with a private bathroom, as well as a full kitchen and bar.

A software program is used to create potential layouts of the space based on the vision for the event. Wood said that everything from the number and shape of the tables to where the dance floor will be and how the room will be split to hold both a wedding and reception can be shown.

The open-concept floor plan and natural palette allows for a variety of customization.

The versatility of the space allows for the wedding and reception to be in the same room.

Couples can bring in any vendor they choose, but Wood keeps a list of local preferred vendors in an effort to promote local businesses.

Packages can be put together to meet the couple’s budget.

Various bar packages are available, including an open bar or cash bar. Rental of lighting and tents for outside can be arranged as well.

Table linens can be rented through the venue, and staff will put them on and take them off as well as set up and tear down the rest of the space.
