Halloween festivities: Where and when to score some candy

With Halloween fast approaching, local organizations are setting up their annual spooky events to celebrate. Families have a plethora of events and trick-or-treating times to choose from. The following is a listing of some of the Halloween festivities in Henry, Jefferson and Washington County.

Henry County:

The Mt. Pleasant Public Health Department is hosting a Healthy Halloween Walk on Sunday, Oct. 20 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at East Lake Park.

Mt. Pleasant Main Street along with the Henry County Extension Office will have their trick-or-treating event, Witch Way to Main on Thursday, Oct. 24 from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. in the downtown area of Mt. Pleasant.

The Mt. Pleasant REC Center is hosting their annual Pumpkin Fun Run on Friday, Oct. 25 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at East Lake Park.

The Hillsboro Christian Church is offering an Old-Fashioned Hayride on Oct. 26 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at 101 S. King St., Hillsboro.

The New London Presbyterian Church is hosting their annual Trunk-or-Treat on Sunday, Oct. 27 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. The church is located at 400 N. Elm. St., New London.

Sunnybrook at Mt. Pleasant is having a No Tricks, Just Treats! event on Wednesday, Oct. 30 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Sunnybrook is located at 1406 E. Linden Dr., Mt. Pleasant.

Citywide trick-or-treating in Mt. Pleasant will take place on Oct. 31 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.

The Salem Crew Public Library will hold their 12th annual Backward Parade on Oct. 31 at 5 p.m. The parade will be followed by hot dogs in the park and trick-or-treating from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. The Crew Public Library is located at 107 E. Cherry St., Salem.

Wayland citywide trick-or-treating will take place on Oct. 31 from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Winfield will hold its annual Weiner Roast and trick-or-treating on Saturday, Nov. 2 in the city parking lot on the corner of Locust and Pine. The Weiner Roast will be from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. and trick-or-treating will happen from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Jefferson County:

Fairfield will host a movie night and costume contest in Central Park on Oct. 19 starting at 6 p.m. There will be a showing of “Hocus Pocus.”

The Fairfield Public Library will host their annual Halloween event, When the Lights Go Out, on Thursday, Oct. 24 starting at 6 p.m.

The Jefferson County Extension office will hold their Trunk of Treat event on Saturday, Oct. 26 at the Jefferson County Fairgrounds from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.

The Fairfield Chamber Member Trick or Treat hosted by the Fairfield Area Chamber of Commerce will take place on Oct. 31. Hours vary depending on business hours.

Citywide trick-or-treating in Fairfield will take place from 5:30 p.m. yo 8:30 p.m. on Oct. 31.

Libertyville will have a Halloween parade beginning at 1 p.m. Citywide trick-or-treating will occur from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.

Washington County:

Lake Darling State Park will have a trick-or-treating event on Saturday, Oct. 26 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the campgrounds. The park is located at 111 Lake Darling Rd., Brighton.

PAWS and More in Washington will hold a Halloween Celebration on Sunday, Oct. 27 from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. PAWS and more is located at 1004 W. Madison St., Washington.

The McDonald’s Halloween Party will be on Tuesday Oct. 29 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. There will be crafts, games, and treats. A costume contest will begin at 6 p.m. in three different categories for kids under the age of three, children ages 4 to 7 and children ages 8 to 12.

Kalona’s citywide trick-or-treating will occur on Oct. 31. The city does not have any set hours.

Washington Chamber of Commerce’s Trick-or-Treat Around the Square will be on Oct. 31 from 5 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

Washington’s citywide trick-or-treating will be on Oct. 31 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.

The First Assembly God of Church will hold their 6th annual Harvest Carnical on Oct. 31 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. The church is located at 1602 E. Washington St., Washington.

The Halcyon House Trick or Treat will be on Oct. 31 from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. at 1015 S. Iowa Ave., Washington. The Halcyon House is located at 1015 S. Iowa Ave., Washington.

Wellman’s citywide trick-or-treating will be on Oct. 31 from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

Wellman’s Harvest Fest Party will be held at Wellman Skating Rink from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. A costume parade will begin at 7:15 p.m.

Riverside’s citywide trick-or-treating will be on Oct. 31 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

The Kalona Optimist Club will hold their annual Halloween Party on Oct. 31 at the Kalona YMCA. The party begins at 7 p.m.
