The St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference released its preseason coaches poll for the sport of women’s soccer on Monday, and Iowa Wesleyan is tabbed to finish in an all-too familiar spot. The Tigers are picked to finish ninth this year, the same spot they finished in the 2018 schoolyear.

The Tigers are coming off a 3-12 overall record and a 1-8 mark in conference play. New head coach Chris Gaskin has taken over at the helm, one of a handful of new IW head coaches who will be debuting this fall.

IW’s one win last year was a 7-1 blowout win over Eureka College. The Tigers were shut out in the majority of their SLIAC games, but did nearly beat Blackburn at home, falling 2-1.

Defending champion Webster University was picked to win the SLIAC this season. The Gorloks went 9-0 last year to win the conference.

Webster will be the overwhelming favorites to repeat. The Gorloks finished the poll with 81 points, 16 more than second-place Fontbonne.

The 2019 preseason poll looks very familiar to the 2018 final standings. The only difference in the poll is that Westminster is picked to finish third alone, after splitting third place with Greenville last season. Greenville is picked to finish fourth.
